1 in 3 People With Diabetes Don’t Fill Their Prescriptions

When your doctor writes prescriptions for your diabetes medications, do you fill them? A new study that measured physician prescription orders with prescription insurance claims found that 1 in 3 people with diabetes do not fill their prescriptions.

A press release from Geisinger Health System states that of the 1.5 million people who are newly diagnosed, approximately 400,000 do not fill their prescriptions for their diabetes meds.

Known Problems With Low Cost Diabetes Medications

Managing blood sugar levels requires a balanced and planned diet which must be accompanied by the right diabetes medication to manage and control the disease and not allow it to worsen. I just read the book “Your First Year With Diabetes – What to do Month by Month” which was written and illustrated by Theresa Garnero, APRN, BC-ADM, MSN, CDE. It is phenomenal.

Your First Year With Diabetes is essentially a month by month guide letting you know exactly what you should be doing and how.

Gaiam and the Mayo Clinic have teamed up to produce and market a series of wellness solutions DVDs including one for Type Two Diabetes.

Depression Combined with Type 2 Diabetes Results in Poorer Glucose Control

A study from the Medical University of South Carolina, that appeared in the journal, General Hospital Psychiatry, shows that depression plays a part in how well people control their blood sugar.

11,525 veterans with type 2 diabetes were followed for nine years. Ninety-seven percent of the participants were men.

When A1c values were measured, they were higher in the depressed veterans than in the non-depressed (more…)
